The Westray Writers celebrated National Poetry Day on October 4th 2018 with a poetry breakfast at Hagock Field. Having brushed away the croissant crumbs and wiped our fingers free of marmalade, we spent the next 90 minutes writing to a variety of prompts and sharing our work. Our final act of celebration was to open Westray’s Poetry Library which lodges on a shelf in Hagock Field’s porch cupboard. Our event appeared on the National Poetry Day website and map although the map appeared to shave us off at first glance! It was a grand celebration of poetry. And hard won. One writer travelled by boat to be with us. Another had already moved his cattle to the byre before arriving.
